Prof. Zhao Kejin obtained his Doctoral degree in Law from Fudan University. He is Vice President of The School of Social Sciences at Tsinghua University, Associate Professor in Institute of International Studies, Deputy Director of Centre for Sino-US Relations at Tsinghua University, and Deputy Secretary General of Global Development Institute. His research is majorly focusing on diplomatic theories, Chinese Diplomacy, the United States-China relationships, and related issues. He has published 18 books in his field, and has published more than 80 academic papers on SSCI and CSSCI. He was honoured five awards on the provincial and ministerial levels. He was nominated as New Century Excellent Talents of the Ministry of Education.
In this book, the author aims at generalizing the professional knowledge of diplomacy and international relationships to the ordinary audience who are interested in this field. The book is constituted of four parts. In Part one, the author introduces the basic principles of diplomacy, and presents the classical diplomatic theories. In the following part, the author tries to analyse diplomacy from the legislative and institutional perspectives. Based on the aforementioned introduction of theoretical knowledge, the author uses vivid cases to assist readers in practicing diplomatic theories in reality. The case studies listed in this part involve areas such as diplomatic negotiation, diplomatic mediation, diplomatic interference and intervention, preventive diplomacy and crisis management. The author predicts a possible development trajectory of diplomatic theories in the concluding part. It is an important reference for governments, research institutes, universities and scholars in the International Relationships field.
