Han Fangming, Deputy Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the CPPCC National Committee and Chairman of the Charhar Institute, was re-elected Member of the China Economic and Social Council (CESC) at its first plenary session of the Fifth Congress held in Beijing on July 31.
The new leading group of the Fifth Congress of the CESC was elected at the meeting. Zhang Qingli, Vice Chairman of the 13th CPPCC National Committee, was elected Chairman of the Fifth CESC Congress.
First founded in Beijing in 2001, the CESC is a national social organization whose members are top experts and scholars in economic and social fields as well as officials and administrators of various institutions concerned.
Combining the functions of a leading think tank of the country, a bridge of communications, and a platform for consultation, the CESC is devoted to overall, strategic and forward-looking research on crucial economic and social issues. And the CESC also makes positive contributions to consolidating social and public support for the bilateral ties between China and other countries by strengthening the connections, dialogues and communications with foreign counterparts, think tanks, mainstream media and noted public figures.
