Dong Jinyi is Member of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Charhar Institute in Beijing. He is the Vice President of the Association of Former Diplomats of China. In August 1972, he entered into Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China by taking entrance examination. From April 1976 to February 1981, he served as a staff member of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in France. After that, he served as Third Secretary, then Second Secretary of Protocol Department of MFA from March 1981 to May 1985. He also served as Second Secretary, First Secretary, and Director of General Office, Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in France in the time span of the next five years. From 1990 to 1997, he was designated Deputy Director, then Director and Counselor of Protocol Department of MFA. From 1997 to 2001, he successively held posts of Counselor, Minister Counselor and Deputy Head of Mission of PRC to European Union and Embassy of PRC to Belgium. Then, he served as Deputy Director-General and Director-General of the General Office of MFA in the following half decade. He was Ambassador of PRC to Italy and to San Marino from 2005 to 2008. Then, he was appointed Ambassador of PRC to Switzerland in 2008 and Vice President of China Foundation for International Studies 2010. From 2011 to 2016, he served as Vice President and Secretary-General of the Association of Former Diplomats of China.
