Zhang Zhijian is an Adjunct Senior Fellow at the Charhar Institute in Beijing. In 1972, he entered into Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China by taking entrance examination. He successively held posts of staff member of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Canada, Third Secretary of Protocol Department of MFA, Deputy Director, Director of Protocol Department of MFA. Then, he served as First Secretary and Counselor of Consulate-General of the People’s Republic of China in Houston, Deputy Secretary of Party Committee of China Foreign Affairs University, Deputy Director-General of Protocol Department of MFA and Director of the External Affairs Department of the General Office of the NPC Standing Committee. From March 2003 to May 2006, he was appointed the Ambassador of PRC to Finland. He received BA in English language and literature from Beijing Foreign Studies University.
